Choosing a Case..... Help

Hi Folks

Recently I have been having issues with my CPU crashing or rather freezing when either browsing the 'net or running media player for movies etc. I have updated all drivers for everything - fresh installation and the like and still it happens however only sporadically in the winter months.... more so in the summer months

I have my PC in the bedroom and in all honesty it gets the sun all day; has poor ventilation so much so that I can only open my window up to 10cm and as a result it gets rather hot in there.

I have read various posts and have come to the (possible blinkered) conclusion that my case needs replacing. I have both sides off my case at the moment and as a result the problem occurs less frequently which hopefully qualifies my thoughts.

In fairness, the current case I have is a £30 job with 500W PSU included (Groan.... you get what you pay for and all that ;)) so see it as an investment for any future upgrade etc.

Therefore on a budget of anywhere up to £75 - more if it's worth it; I would like to hear peoples suggestions on what potential case I can go for which shifts the max amount of air to hopefully alleviate the problem.

I was thinking about the Antec 902 originally and obviously out of touch technology-wise having noticed that the V3 is out

I was also thinking about the Antec 600 mainly for the fact that it is cheaper than the 902 - seems like this one is now discontinued from OCUK.

I've suggested Antec cases following their reviews on OCUK but other thoughts and suggestions are most welcome.

Also, if any can give any alternative thoughts on what my issue is if they don't think it's the case then that is also most welcome. I have a Core2 Quad Q6600 and it runs at high temps in comparison with what folks class as normal.

Open to thoughts and critism here so over to you folks and thanks for your help in advance

Jonathan

So you also have a cheap no-name 500w psu, that possibly like all no-name parts is actually a 250w psu in disguise, and your trusting it with your setup?

Get a new PSU first.

Then a case maybe.

what are the pc specs? if you have some hungry equipment then that might explain a lot.

Spec as follows - it was built in summer 2008, and I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT "Toxic Edition" 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

In response to the make of case it's a Tsunami Virgo 2 only it has a 500w PSU

that spec isnt that shabby really, the 3870 is a little weak these days, but thats it.

but trusting it all to a psu with a rrp of about £20? oh dear.

please do your lovely spec a favor and put this in it - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-042-BQ&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1083

have you considered adding a fan or two to the case? then maybe getting a new case? such as one of these,
