Hey guys,

I'm looking for a decent priced good performance CPU cooler.
I'm running an i7 3770k, looking to overclock it to 4.5ghz once I buy the new cooler.
I'm open to both heatsink and water cooling.
I've been looking at the NZXT Havik 140, NZXT KRAKEN X40, H80i and the 212 Evo.
Can't make my bloody mind up and I don't really know what to go for.

Bottom line.
Efficient, quiet, decent price.

Of your list I think the NZXT Havik 140 is best.

Water cooling costs more for same performance and is usually louder too.
There are many coolers better than 212 Evo for similar money. ;)

I have a H80i and it's a very nice cooler.

All I can add to my post is :-

It did not fail out of the box

It looks so much better than a huge chunk of metal blocking the centre of the case

Its quieter than the Air cooler I had in my old PC

It speeds up when I am gaming and slows down as soon as I come back to the desktop

It would be nice to know how many OC have sold and how many there have been problems with

I've taken the liberty of trimming down your sig before it gets deleted for being waaay over the maximum of four lines.

No need to thank me. Welcome to OcUK :)

i7 3770K 3.50GHz - Asrock Z77 Extreme6 - Vengeance 8GB 1866Mhz - MSI HD7950 - OCZ Vertex 4 256GB - Corsair GS700

Nice rig by the way.

Well mine is still running :)
I hope you have a good one and it lasts... because many are not.

Here's 1 H100, 3 H80i and 4 H100i failures this on this forum, 4 of them this month:
RetrogamerX had 3 H80i failures, the last being 2 March
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18493118&highlight=corsair+pump

zell4687 had his H80i fail on 10, March; post #52 same thread.

Liamz51 had his H80i fail on 11, March; post #55 same thread.

geeman1979 had his H100i fail on 14, March; post #61 same thread.

MOOGLEYS "I went from a D14 to a h100, H100i, H100i and one final H100i then back to a D14 and will never touch a H anything again."; post 53 same thread.

My advice, get an alpenfohn k2, noctua d14. silver arrow or a phanteks. The ivybridge cpu's are very hot running cpu's. They cannot be compared to other intel cpu's in regards to temps. At 4.5ghz, a 3770k will run very hot, hence do not skimp on the cooler.

I just bought one of these for my new fx8350 :D:D
YOUR BASKET
1 x Cooler Master GeminII M4 Low Profile CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366) £22.99
Total : £27.98 (includes shipping : £4.16).

and its going back......awkward to fit and didnt actually fit in the backing frame (yes i followed the instructions) knew i should have bought the other one !
Did not get from OC btw ( i live far away)

probably should have tried an am3+ socket cooler for your fx

If you don't mind having a large heat sink, top end air coolers would be cheaper, quieter and more reliable than AIO's like the H80i's. Performance is also on par

That is the cleverest thing said in this thread.

I totally agree. AIO's are good but can be a lot of hassle sometimes. You won't get that problem with air coolers.

It's worth noting, in regards to the above listed AIO failures that whilst those are valid it's extremely rare to the point of almost non-existance that someone will post about any product if they haven't experienced any issues with it. So without knowing how many people have AIO coolers on the forums, you cannot for definite say that there is a "high proportion" of failures with any one unit.

Something the nay-sayers on these forums won't admit.

Agreed. People will openly complain when they have problems with a product and say absolutely nothing when they don't.
That said it is safe to say that there have been more serious Corsair AIO problems complained about on the forums than any other cooler... or combination of coolers.

It IS an am3+ cooler according to the specs in overclockers
these sockets are covered -AM2;AM2+;AM3;AM3+;FM1;;)

i have banged the oem one on for the time being ...it works and is quieter than my graphics card  which is my next upgrade.

Which Corsair, whilst needing a bit of a kick up the arse for them also need to be praised for the way that they deal with RMAs directly and without quibble leading to a practically painless resolution.

Having to RMA all is a pain.. And Corsair customer relations is not near as good as many others. We've been over this before. Please don't start this again.

That could be down to percentages again. If 5000 buy a corsair unit you may get 50 with problems. If only 500 people buy a kuhler and 5 get problems. Its the same percentage, you just here less about it..

Remember, I said COULD BE...

Indeed
It's all speculation as to what the percentages are.

Reading forums and talking to people gives lots of complaints and problems with Corsair coolers and, very few complaints about any of the other AIO/CLC and even less complaints and problems with air coolers.. especially the premium air coolers like NH-D14, TC14PE, K2, Silver Arrow, Silver Arrow SB-E, etc.

I can only guess as to how many of each are sold but I'm pretty sure Corsair cooler sales are not more than total all other CLC combined are.. and the number of complaints about Corsair compared to all the other is much greater.

Same applies to Corsair compared to all the total of top air cooler.
