Choosing a GPU

I have decided to upgrade my GPU, I want to run the games I have at 1440p /144Hz on the max settings. Currently my 1070 does OK, but not on the max settings.

I am pretty new to all this PC stuff, so would like some help.

What I cannot seem to work out is which card I should buy, the different models and options is a hard place to work through.

Now I understand it is similar to other stuff, such as what bread to buy and what jeans to buy etc. but I have no experience to rely upon.

What I am looking for is the recommendation of people who have a particular GPU, and why I should go for that one.

I am pretty sure that I am going to go for a 2070 Super, seems the sweet spot for 1440/144, from what I have read.

Appreciate any help and suggestions here.

Thanks in advance.

Apparantly Nvidia has just dropped some RRPs on their GPUs and the next generation could be announced as early as March, so it might be worth hanging fire to see, or waiting for price movements at least.
