Hello boys and gals. My names Jay and iv been away from pc building for a fair few years now. The last time I built a computer was about 12 years ago and my gfx card used an AGP slot lol. So please treat me as a noob. But after years of console gaming I'm ready to get back in with the PC overlords.

Iv been researching components for the past month or so now and looking to build a cool quiet machine. With good options to overclock in the future. But I am torn between 2 gfx cards and undecided on a case. So far the spec is as follows:

EVGA Supernova P2 850w 80 Plus Platinum Modular
MSI Z97A Gaming 6 ddr3 ATX mobo
Intel I7 4790k 4ghz
Kingston hyperX savage red 16gb (2x8gb) 2400mhz
Corsair hydro 110 280mm cpu water cooler
Samsung 850 evo 250gb SSD
2tb Seagate SSHD
Windows 7 Home

I am torn between

EVGA Geforce GTX 980ti Hybrid 6144mb
EVGA Geforce GTX 980ti superclocked ACX 2.0 6144mb

But it does depend on the case I use. So far I'm thinking of the NZXT Noctis 450. Because it would look sexy as a red and black theme. However if I go for the Hybrid edition gfx card does this case support the 120mm radiator for the graphics card as well as the 280mm radiator for the cpu cooler. And if not can anyone suggest a good case for around the 100 pound mark ?.

I intend to use this as a gaming machine for 1080p. As I'm buying either the Acer Predator XB240HA 24" Gsync 1080p monitor or the AOG G2460PG 24" Gsync 1080p monitor. And yes I know this system is slight overkill for 1080p however I would like this system to last a while and will be adding more SSD's and maybe monitors in the future. I will probably upgrade to ddr4 in 3 years time'ish.

Any thoughts/comments/advice on anything is greatly appreciated
Many Thanks!
Jay

Hi.

Do you already have that setup?

If not are you after a tower+OS to play games, what is your budget?

Hey

I haven't purchased anything as of yet.

Yes I'm after a tower + OS and monitor to play games at ultra settings with High frame rates whilst being cool and quiet. My budget is around £1800 all together give or take a bit.

Thanks!

Thanks for that matey. Much appreciated.

I based my choice of parts on benchmarks iv seen and reviews. And I was under the impression that water cooling was the way to go for quiet cool machines. But you seem to be the kind of person who knows what he's talking about ;) .

I was planning on purchasing a CD Key for windows 7 (not included in the budget) then downloading the image file from Microsoft and putting it on a memory stick which I have.

I didn't think 8gb of RAM would be enough to last the next three years. But out of interest what would you spend the extra £86 saved from the OS on ?

Thanks!

That is a good AIR cooler, I built a rig using that exact board, cooler and case for a mate, it is quiet thats for sure.

Looks nice too.

For gaming 8GB is widely regraded and I believe proven (via tech site testing) to be ample.

Not really sure what to spend an extra £85 on, maybe blow it on the new Gigabyte GTX980Ti Xtreme card, or some cable-mod braided cables for that PSU,

I was originally going to go for that case which iv seen is basically identical to the Noctis 450 on the inside. but this case gives me a batman sort of feel to it :) . which I could still get seen as its in budget.

I take it then there's no benefit from having an I7 for gaming then ?

or I could spend the extra money on the missus but I don't see that happening :D

An i5 for games is fine.

Content creation would benefit from an i7, there might be some odd game that gains a boost also from an i7, but thats few and far between.

How about nice keyboard such as a mechanical corsair/Ducky with red led.
