I work at a school, currently have about 200 users (this will increase over the coming year) and i'm looking to upgrade from Win2000 Server to Win2003...thing is, there seems to be a few different versions and i need some help identifying which is most suitable for the school.

Additional tid-bit; i am hoping to move over to the Ranger Suite within the next 6 months to a year...in case that has any effect on what version of win2003 would be best.

Any help or links explaining the differences would be great.

Thank you :)

When choosing between standard and enterprise, make the decision based on the servers hardware (Standard has limits on how many processors and how much memory in can address. Dont go near web edition, it wont be of use to you). You'll probably want Standard Edition R2 unless you have a rather beefy DC.

Thanks Otacon. I'll be looking in to upgrading our servers (one looks after the curriculum, the other the admin side of things) over the coming months too..they're coping but are a little dated, and what with the numbers of extra staff/students coming in it'll need to be looked at. The infrastructure is also going to be looked at and improved.

I will look in to what you suggested; but is the main differences between standard and enterprise the hardware it supports or does it come with extra (useful) functionality?
