.chp any ideas?

Hi,

Everytime i download a file to save, there is somthing that is turning it in to a .chp file which i can then not open to install my file

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this

It was trying to load the files up in a web based java program untill i deleted that.

I've seen this before but not sure what causes it. Some say antivirus software, etc.

You can just download the file normally and then change the extension and all should be well

thanks for the quick reply, i cant see anywhere in the file properties to change the extentsion, is there any other way to do it?

What antivirus are you running then? And if you are on XP the file extension might be hidden. Go to Tools>Folder Options>View and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

You'll be able to see the extensions and be able to change it to say .exe or whatever the file is meant to be.

im not running any anti virus at the minute, this all started when i downloaded a file that ran in a web based java application, and ever since i the files download an automatically try and open up in this java program, untill i deleted the java program and now it comes up with the error unknown menu handler

So all files you download want to run the Java program? Have you tried resetting them to open with their proper programs?
