Chris Hook resigns as Senior Director, Global Product Marketing, AMD – Headed for new horizons
Chris had been with AMD (and formerly ATI), for over 17 years and was one of the most experienced PR and marketing personnel on the payroll. With highly successful events like the Hawaii launch and Radeons iconic guerilla marketing tactics almost singlehandedly developed under his tenure by his team, his loss will be felt throughout RTG. While there is no official word on where he will be moving to next, his official post does mention that he’s headed towards new horizons.

I suppose it's a bit difficult when RTG comes to you and says: look guys, everyone is expecting RX480 to do 980Ti performance for £200... but... uhm, it offers the same performance as the 290x which has been out for years, have fun marketing it!

There was some reasonably large Polaris hype, so I guess they did somewhat of a good job without directly lying it up and instead just keeping the numbers concealed for as long as possible until it hit the fan at release.

Edit: They rolled those turds in as much glitter as they possibly could which is about all they could reasonably have been expected to do imo.

17 years means he doesn't get a free pass on their abysmal marketing of good products - sure the last couple of releases have hardly been a marketing department dream assignment but previous campaigns have been dreadful too.

Edit: This may have been overly harsh - he may not have had control of several of their previous efforts and may have been doing great work behind the scenes.

Marketing people exist in droves it's one of the most competitive industries to break into so AMD shouldn't have any trouble replacing him. Good luck in your future endeavors Mr Hook.

To be fair, that hype mostly came from the community.
