Not sure if its been posted on here before but found an interesting video, definately worth watching...

http://desivideos.ratedesiblogs.com/2006/04/muslims_and_ame.html

A practising christian guy, who knows almost nothing about Islam, goes and lives with a practising muslim family for a month, where he cant drink, eat pork etc

It does highlight how misinformed a lot of americans are about Islam.

I think its good that a Christian can recognise other religions and that the other religion let an infidel in for a short time.

Is this the same video that was on TV the other night (I'm on 56k)? If so then the american in it really wound me up. He was so ignorant and... well... stupid.

Aye it's Morgan Spurlock (I think) the guy who did Supersize Me. Was on CH4 the other night. I didn't watch it, not sure if it was the Muslim programme or not, as it's a series not a one-off.

isnt the supersize me guy doing summit along these lines?

"The series is created by filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (1, 2), famous for his 2004 documentary Super Size Me which chronicled his month long McDonald's only diet and was the third highest grossing box-office documentary of all time."

I dont know if it was on telly. I dont think the american guy is ignorant at all, misinformed yes, which I suppose is largely due to the media giving him a certain impression. Its the same for most americans though dont you think?

Not just americans but lots of other people as well ;). I dont think its that hard a task for a christian or non muslim to go and live with a muslim family for 30 days etc. I have a non muslim mate, hes atheist who comes around my place and chills with me and my family...he enjoys it and also finds my mum who prays...quite interesting etc. Asks a lot of questions though, which my mum loves answering lol even though she always asks him why he doesnt believe in a god etc.

It was on More4 when the channel aunched. The whole series is excellent, Spurlock makes his points well without being a tube about it, and he always gets involved with the issue instead of just reporting.

Some of the others were Spurlock and his bird living on minimum wage for a month, a redneck living with a woofter, and a woman going on a 30 day drink binge (lucky cow).

But isn't the average Muslim misinformed as well, not know everything there is to know about Islam?

Also, why would someone who doesn't know everything about a subject misinformed? Do you know everything about nuclear physics? Do you need to?

The drink binge one was carried out by the BBC and was a blatent rip off and vastly inferior to Morgan's work.

Yeah I saw that one, but I'm sure Spurlock did a binge one too. The BBC one was cringe worthy.

Well most muslims will know a lot more about islam than say the average non muslim walking the roads these days. But its in our interests and a part of our faith that we should know the basics of islam which most muslims i know of, including me do know. Do we need to?? yes we do.

As for the term misinformed??, looks like the guy was misinformed about islam on the whole at the start but 30 days later is now in a better position to know what islam stands for etc. So yes i would call him misinformed, much like a lot of people in this world when it comes to islam and what it really stands for etc.

I really like the show, it was interesting to see his original views on islam and then his views 30 days down the line after he had learnt more. I didnt find him ignorant at all, if i was put in a similar situation e.g. having to live with a jewish family for 30 days and practice their religion then I would behave in the same way.

Im not saying he's misinformed because he doesnt know 'everything' about Islam, more because he had previous convictions which were nothing to do with Islam at all. He realises how 'misinformed' he was himself after the 30 days.
