what are you having this year? i will be at my folks. i'm not a big fan of turkey so i opted for lamb and my dad said we will have a nice bit of pork too. they are still open to ideas though, i wouldn't mind duck or partridge!

I'm having 2 Christmas meals this year. One at my parents, one at hers.

Pork at mine.
Turkey at hers.

Can't wait! :D

Goose is nice or Capon is a good alternative to Turkey too. :)

Christmas day turkey yay&nay.
So many nicer meats, however great in sarnies on boxing day.

Ideally would have turkey and pigs in blankets made specifically for boxing day sandwiches.
And different meat+pigs in blankets for Christmas day.

My fake Christmas pork belly.

Don't have turkey. Honestly don't think the taste matches the extortionate price.

We settle for chicken and gammon. That does us.

Me too, we've had it a couple of times. Last year we had turkey and it was quite a let down, though it was likely to do with the quality of the bird. Got it from a British foodshop in Prague so I doubt they have the pick of the coop, so to speak.
Got a fantastic cook making it as well, should be a good meal. I just hope that my croquembouche is as good as the main!

Goose is a million times better, but it's a lot more money. A lot lot more money.

Money isn't that big a deal tbh. I'll be sharing the costs of the bird with at least one other person. I think we budgeted £35 for the turkey (not the best quality admittedly). Any idea how much more a goose would be?

IIRC it's around £12 a kilo. Thankfully, I don't have to pay for the meat!

Ouch. That's quite an increase, yeah.

I was also really tempted to galantine the turkey (or whatever bird I go for) but I would imagine the guests would prefer the look of it cooked on the bone.
