Hi guys,

I thought I would treat my dad to a media pc for Christmas.

We have no problems with watching HD movies on VLC player but when we come to watch live streams online in 1080p the video is stuttering. ( I have changed flash player settings) still with no luck.

Any suggestions ? I guess its the CPU that cant handle it. Will a graphics card sort it out ?

Computer Specs:

PC:Acer Veriton HDMI X270

CPU: E5200 @ 2.50ghz
RAM: 2GB
ONBOARD GRAPHICS?: Nvidia GeForce 7100/Nvidia Nforce 630i

Yeah, like the guys above have suggested, I'd be thinking it's more to do with the source of the stream than the ability of the CPU - especially if VLC can handle local playback.

Internet was running consistent on a speedtest 20mbps with low ping.

I have tried youtube videos and have the same issues with 1080p

What browser are you using? Chrome is a right CPU hog nowadays - give IE/Firefox a bash and see if any better.

I originally was using chrome.

Switched to firefox to see if it improved it with no joy.

I also disabled hardware acceleration and upped memory allowance on flash settings.

Any ideas on what graphics card I would need cheap/good quality ? Also the pc is small so could do with being small.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

Are you connected by wireless, DLAN or cable and does this go directly into the router ?

Update the gfx drivers ?
Can you allocate more memory to the onboard gfx from the bios ?

Thanks I will double check the case tonight and buy one if its going to definitely sort the issue

The pc is connected wireless and graphic drivers are up to date and all windows updates have been done.

I will double check the memory allocation. But when I last went on the bios it seemed fairly standard and not have many changeable options compared to other pc's i have been on.
