Christmas upgrade for Nephew

Nephew is rocking my old 3900x and 1080ti on AM4

Im thinking has he is purely a gamer we sell the 3900x and buy a 5800X3D…he looses 4 cores but gains extra cache and clock speed.

thoughts on this?

Also if he gets an 7800XT GFX card will that improve gaming as it taps into the 3D cache of the 5800

It's called SAM (Smart Access Memery) and is very good to have when you have both AMD+AMD! Rebar is just a pale imitation of it.

Thanks. I thought it was limited to memory, not cache. That said, I haven't seen any benchmarks that compare SAM with a 7800X3D and 7700X or 5800X3D and 5800X

My B550m Mortar supports rebar needed a bios update thou - 5800x3d / 7800xt is a sensible route your nephew will be chuffed

I agree on the 5800x3d. But if it was me I'd buy a RTX 4070 for the better RT and access to frame generation and dlss3.

This far out ways SAM imo. (The combo of AMD CPU and GPU)
