Chrome - direct downloads

Hi all,

I've tried the Chrome forum in the past but had no luck so I thought I'd give it a shot here. If a site sends me to a direct download, e.g. ending in extension .zip, .rar or .dmg, the file doesn't pop-up asking me how I'd like to save it as it does in Firefox. This means whenever I want to download something direct from a link I have to start up Firefox.

Has anyone come across this bug before, if so how do I solve it?

goto preferences ->under the hood ->

there should be an option to ask what to do when you download a file.

What does it do if you click on a link? as whenever I get that type of link it downloads automatically and the download bar pops up at the bottom of the screen?

It only popups up on the bottom bar about 15% of the time. I'll have to check what file types it does it with.

The only option I can see is to ask where to save the file to.

At the moment the link just appears in the URL bar with a blank white page. I then copy and paste that into Firefox for the save pop-up.

strange, i've never seen that problem. I've ocassionally found chrome a bit funny with PDF downloads but nothing like you describe.

I'm guessing you've already tried the delete/reinstall?

It does it with both Chrome stable and Chrome Canary so I'm not sure what's wrong.
