Hi there,
today i'm bored so I was wondering if anyone had tried Chrome OS and what they thought of it.

I would use it for the purpose that it was designed for... on a super low cost netbook. If we see a £100 netbook with GoogleOS installed by default then I'd use it for sure. Would I install it on a regular PC?? No definitely not - but thats not what its designed for.

It seems to have a live cd, so I will give it a go, if it works on umid bz. See how it goes, but don't think it will go too well, as it has the fabled gma 500...

I've never tried it either, after watching their keynote a while back it didn't appeal to me to be honest, if I was to use chrome OS rather than ubuntu I think it would be a downgrade.

Might give the live cd a go and will report back.

Tried it a few days ago. Wasn't very impressed TBH. Dedicated browser operating system plus ever so slightly more. Hmm...

As masterluke said, it may be fairly good on a <=£100 netbook.

I'm far more impressed by Ubuntu Netbook Remix for cheap netbooks.

I gave one of the newer builds a try on a VM, and then on a laptop via USB and althought it is a nice OS, it has no use, all it is, is just a tweaked version of Google Chrome expanded maximised on the screen, ok useful to save battery on netbooks and straight to the point web and email, but there's nothing useful, no application installations or files which can be stored on the desktop.

I have to say it isn't a contender, it's in it's own separate zone.

Yes, chrome OS does sound strange. a OS just to browse. If google made a real OS, it might have been interesting. Might be cool on a Internet enabled TV though.

Like Android? Seriously, on netbooks it's far more capable than ChromeOS and is already booming. Last i heard i thought they were going to merge to two projects, by which i assume they mean put most of the people from ChromeOS on app development.
