since the new samsung and acer chrome books are starting to be sold in the US at least was wondering if anybody has experience of the beta chrome versions and has any tips for me about the OS. I'm just downloading a linux version of it, kinda intrigued by the broswer interface.

... yea except google knows too much about me already :-), Not a big fan of the cloud either, I feel naked on there!!! :-)

I can see this possibly being useful for some of the older people who may need everything as simplified as possible but I really don't see what advantages it has over a normal computer for someone who knows how to use it. They have just taken features away. Sort of forcing you to use the cloud for EVERYTHING seems a bit annoying as well. Also I take my laptop to a lot of places with no internet connection, is there any point to these chromebooks when not internet connected? If not I would rather have a desktop.

I think it's more or less based on the internet, so probably useless without a connection :(

I reckon they're too late... If they released it 18 months ago when the netbook craze started, they would be super popular... only time will tell how they do though!

^ but then can be. they can be the most basic piece of £100 hardware all the money goes on the screen and keyboard etc.. as its cloud. just like on-live.

personally don't like the idea of a full cloud computing environment.

I agree, That system is not worth the money, and cloud computing is where you have to depend on someone else HD to stow information, is not very secure. I for one, would not stow information about my company (If I had one ) on another HD.:D
