Chrome search bar - Disable?

I've been using Google Chrome for a while now and I really like it.

I have come across one annoyance and I can't seem to solve it.

It seems random but on some pages the URL bar remove/hides the URL and replaces it with a search toolbar.

See picture below:

This is really annoying if I want to copy the URL of the page that i'm viewing.

Does anyone know a way of disabling this search bar?

I am using Chrome 10.0.648.18

Have been using Chrome for ages, and have yet to see that happen. Perhaps it's related to an add-on you're using, or a bug in the dev build.

Doesn't Chrome do this by default? The url bar becomes a search bar when you have it empty/start typing. It's like a miniature google :p.

Cheers for the replies,

The last site it occurred on was schuh.co.uk

I was browsing, and the URL disappeared and I was left with the search bar.

Dam annoying, as someone above has suggested I have disabled all the Addons and will monitor for the next few days.
Edit: Just disabled all the extensions except LastPass, if I click the New Tab button, Google loads, with the URL field empty. (see picture in original post)
I happened to type the first thing in my head which was Hello into the actual google search field.
Hello Magazine was the top link. Upon clicking it, the Hello homepage loads and once again the URL Bar is empty!

I may try installing an earlier non Dev build and see if this occurs.

Definitely doesn't happen with the latest stable (beta install) release. Either the dev build is buggy, or you have a dodgy extension.

Ok I have backed up my bookmarks and reinstalled Google Chrome:9.0.597.98 and giving this a try.

Like you said probably an extension
