Chromecast alternatives or chromecast?

Looking at chromecast to primarily plug into the back of my avr to easily play YouTube without having to have pc/TV on
May use iplayer et Al. But inet probably can't cope with that

But I read Amazon might have one out soon that can potentially stream game footage from main desktop
I'm not sure how viable this would be in terms of (I'm guessing) a controller talking to Pc in another room followed my output being sent to TV? I'm guessing there would be issues

I kind of wonder with stuff like this..... It's a £30 device. Is it worth agonizing over? Just get one, and then if the new thing from Amazon is better then sell the Chromecast and get the Amazon one. Surely life's too short to get bogged down in such minor details for the sake of a couple of quid?

for £30 the chrome cast is pretty amazing

collected this today. it is very very good!
works really well with logitech 1100. have configured a button to just turn on the amp and everything else off.

used to have to have htpc on to do this in browser

The main issue I have with the chromecast it's lack if support for DTS when streaming video from a hard drive connected to my router.

Ah yeah I don't use mine for that. I wish 4od was supported.
If we had better bandwidth I could finally get rid of the licence
