Hi,

Kinda stumped on this, so looking for help. Got my dad a chromecast recently, as I've been using one for myself and its been great. Unfortunately, whilst video works fine, the audio is coming out completely garbled.

His Chromecast works fine at my place. What we've tested:
With and without bundled extender - no difference.
Third party 2m HDMI extender to properly take it out from behind TV - no change.
Changed wifi channel - no change.
Using both android and iOS devices - no difference.

Only major difference that I can think of is that at mine its on Virgin Media cable with a virgin superhub providing the wifi and his is a BT Home hub 3 with BT infinity.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Probably down to audio format compatibility then, his TV likely just has better/different audio support than yours. Try using something that will transcode the audio like Plex on it and see if it works then.

I don't think this is a "Chromecast" issue as such. It's got more to do with your Dad's Home Hub. Head into your Home Hub's admin menu by pointing your browser to bthomehub.home/ and into the Advanced Settings tab. Here, under Home Network, you'll find the option for Smart Setup. Click "no" and then "apply" and your router will be updated, turning Smart Setup off. I think you may well find that audio now works.

After some digging it appears to be either a homehub 3 set up as a business hub (business network options rather than home network, default address is 192.168.1.254)

I'm guessing this might be the root of the problem? Any further suggestions?

Is your dad using it as a business hub ? If not, then just do a factory reset then follow the instructions i gave you.
