I thought I'd find out exactly how much quicker the New Chromecast is...

I guess that's about as much as you would expect?

Nice comparison video andy.. recently sold my chromecast v1 for £15 and bought the new v2 model so only cost me £15 to upgrade.

I upgraded mainly so i could connect too the 5ghz channel on my wifi and its definitely an improvement when streaming HD video.

Spotify streaming is nice feature also :)

Yeah, nice comparison, cheers Andy.

Think I'm sticking with my v1 for now, the new one is a decent amount faster really but not sure it's worth upgrading for me.

I leave mine on all the time, that way I can then use CEC to turn on TV/Amp simply by starting to 'cast' (from the app 'home' bit rather than start playing and then start casting like you did), for me with this setup by the time the TV has woken up it's almost ready to start playing via the chromecast, so it works. With the new one I'd guess it'll just get ready to play seconds before the TV wakes up properly.

New Chromecast Audio update sounds very interesting.

Adds 24bit 96khz support and also multi chromecast grouping like the Sonos.

Hmmmm.... Still need an amp and speakers or active speakers in each room, But still. Impressive for a cheap ass device.
