New card game from Jagex using the characters, locations and items from Runescape.

I've been playing this since closed beta (and now during open beta early access), and love it. It made me put down hearthstone and I haven't played a single game of that since. Its a great take on the card game genre, with unique and fun gameplay.

The key difference between this, and other card games like MTG, Hearthstone or Yu-Gi-Oh, is that you don't fight with summoned creatures. Instead you play cards, and your legend fights them for rewards and effects.

Each game is played in 5 chapters. You play out up to 4 cards per chapter, which your legend then interacts with in sequence, for a max of 20 cards played per game. If both players survive these cards, then they fight each other at the end of the game.

The fact that you spend a lot of your time fighting your own deck, and that there are strict limits for the length of the game, make it much more strategic than other games. Every card in your deck matters, and because of that, there aren't any cards that feel useless in the game, or wholly outclassed by rarer versions.

Cards come in two categories, monster cards which your legend fights, and support cards that have a gold cost.

There are currently 5 legends.

The Raptor - The tank. Access to by far the most armour, and can spend it for other effects.

Linza - The smith. Specialises in weapons, buffing them for crazy attack, and spending them for effects

Ozan - The thief. Specialises in gold manipulation and support cards.

Ariane - The mage. Specialises in stat manipulation and hand size effects

Vanescula - The vampyre. Specialises in health manipulation, very powerful cards but quite fragile.

Morvran - The Slayer Master. Specialises in tribal decks and aggressive creatures.

Currently the game in PC only, but mac and mobile clients will be out later in the year

Open beta is going well, getting a good amount of new players, and promos are increasing. Youtuber trump gives a good overview in his new series on the game, I believe there are more videos to come in the series:

Update this week released 10 new cards along with some bug fixes, new cards are based on Old School Runescape this time instead of the "main" version of Runescape.

Also this week the new ranked play system was previewed, with ranked play going to have vastly improved rewards at the end of each season, including modular card backs for each monthly season finish position. A new diamond league above gold league which will use a ELO style system for matchups, so the top league will feature highly competitive play indeed.

Its really worth mentioning that aside from being a lot of fun and different from every other card game, the balancing is very well done in this game, especially for its beta version. There is only a 6% difference in the total number of wins between Ariane and Linza, who have won the most and least games respectably, and the difference in win rate between going first and second is almost exactly 0.

Do pplstill play this rly :P ?

Of course! Its still a big game, regularly at the top of twitch streams, peak time has about 250k people on each game mode, and Jagex had their most profitable year on record last year.

That said though, this thread is for Chronicle, the card game, which is really really good.

played it some more and it does seem pretty good... although as f2p player it seems like it would take an age to get a good deck

The new quest system that came out yesterday should help with that, and when the league system update comes soon then it will be easier still.

Dungeoneering is by far the best way to spend copper coins. If you win 3 games, then you break even on coins. Every win after that is substantial profit, and the gem shards you get from later victories are very generous.

Update yesterday was quite substantial, with a bunch of new cards and bug fixes alongside the quest system update.

Its been announced that the game will be launched on steam (PC now, MAC later) soon, with mobile versions coming out later in the year.

Enjoying my Ozan Cannoncall deck a lot, and spent a long time yesterday experimenting with a big monster Vanescula deck. The Vanescula deck needs a bit more work, but it looking good :)

No posts? Come on guys! Its a great game and you should play it!

Since I last posted there has been a major update, added Morvran, the new legend, as well as a whole bunch of balance changes.

Totalbiscuit has made a WTF video on the game as well (not a paid promotion), which is informative and can be found below - although the game has had significant, beneficial updates since then

I've started making videos as well and you can see one I made covering the balance changes that happened last week below:

So yeah, get in game! Its on steam and free, so you have no excuses whatsoever.
