I am off to http://www.vivabrazilrestaurants.com/ tonight with my pal and his wife for a feast of epic proportions. Having been before I know what to expect:

BBQ'ed meat served until you can eat no more!

Am quite a fan of the concept, first went to one in LA a couple of years ago. Meat can sometimes be a bit over seasoned- to get you to drink more and eat less I expect- but when it's good, oh man is it good!!!

Anyone else been to these type of places before?

Been to this type of restaurant at the O2 arena. It was called Rodizio Rico. BBQ all you can eat.

I cannot find a flaw in the plan.

Bem Brasil in Manchester is like this, its really nice having a good selection of meat to try however I never seem to make the most of it as I get full too easily.

There's also the small chain Rodizio Preto in London (Battersea, Putney, Victoria and West End) that uses the same concept. I know the owner and he's been very successful with it, it's not really something I've heard of before.

Sounds and looks good. How does it work, can you just keep ordering. Or do they just bring meat around the room as and when it's cooked?

Not sure about the others, but with Preto you help yourself to the salad bar and you have a disc with red and green on. When you turn it to green they bring various different cuts of meat round to carve at your table and when you turn it to red they stop bringing it. You can turn it back around whenever you want if you want more.

Oh that sounds fantastic!

There's a place like that just opened up in Nottingham according to one of my mates and definitely worth a visit.

A Rodizio opened in Milton Keynes, was there for a few months before it shut down for some reason.

I managed to go and it was good. Buffet salad + veg and then they bring the meat round. Only thing is they weren't very quick with the meat so you could be sat waiting for some to come or just eating salad but that's probably because I'm greedy. :D
The meat was all nice though and they also did pinapple on the barbecue.

Mmm meats.

Well, it was fantastic as usual. Perfectly BBQ'ed steak, gammon, chicken, pork, lamb, sausages, beef ribs and pork ribs. Just an incredible amount of meat, all perfectly seasoned and cooked.

For those asking how it works, it's as follows:

You go up to the 'buffet' area and grab a plate and select accompaniments; these include things like sauteed spinach, garlic mash, spicy wedges, cous cous, garlic mushrooms, bread, cheese, cold cuts etc.

You then take a seat and the passadors come around with their BBQ'ed cuts of meat on a skewer. They ask you if you would like a slice and if you do, you grab it with tongues as they cut it.

You have a little disc, one side red, one side green. If you leave it green side up, the passadors keep coming and offering you meat. If you leave it red side up, they leave you alone until you turn it back up green.

Simples.

The kicker is the price, it's normally £24 per head which makes it pricey with drinks and questionable about how much value you are getting unless you can eat like a monster! We had a voucher to knock it down to £13 a head which is the lunchtime price- a fair price I think.

Either way, if you love BBQ'ed meat it is great for a treat every now and again :)
