Cic 750w psu be enough?

So... you don't have the money for a good PSU.

So you're going to trust your rig with a weak generic PSU.

Do you have the money to replace your entire rig? ... don't skimp on the PSU!
 
I quite agree. That psu is a budget piece of crap. It does'nt matter that it says 750w on it. It will never come close to that. I would not be letting that thing anywhere near that rig. Do not skimp on the single most important component in a pc.

cheap psu will in doubt result in bad disappoint, NEVER! go cheap on power supplies. get your hand in your wallet and get a decent psu or you will end up paying more out, due to psu failure taking out your motherboard and the gtx470.

Well, I'd be tempted to check out some reviews first. I have, and they aren't all favourable.

The higher rated Modxstream PSUs from Sirtec have been panned by reviewers too :p the 700w is only rated for 550w on 12v, and there is mention of very cheap components being used too :(

It's one I was considering buying for myself just recently. Will be more than enough power, and it's also on the SPCR recommended list, so it'll be quiet too.

I don't know if OcUK have the v1 or the v2 - the v2 is slightly more efficient (bronze 80+ vs standard).

I'd certainly take it over the ~£50 PSUs if you can afford the extra.

Ok, il get that one then i was just curious will it have all the required cables i need as it says its got 2 8 pin connectors and doesnt mention 6 pin connectors (which i need for the gpu) i also need a 4 pin that plugs into my mobo

It seems that your PSU has caused quiet a stir here.

First thing is first. What makes a good PSU good?

That is the question, and its not an easy question to anwser. I could write you an essay on whats a good psu and whats bad. Having been through 10+ PSU and tinkered with them for the last 15 years or so. Thats not the point though.

At the end of the day the PSU is very important to building a good stable and efficient system. Its the backbone of the system really. And of-course you get what you pay for, if you shell out £150 on a PSU most likely it will be good.

Generic PSU which is probably what you might have are indeed inferior, but inferior in what respect is hard to quantify.

Ripple / Max load / Low load / Droop Volt lines / Efficiency they all have an effect.

At the end of the day you shelled out £170 quid for a hot / power hungry card and now your being advised to shell out another £50+ for a PSU that will guarantee the card to run. THat misses the point as that CARD will have effectively cost you 220£+ quid, which in my opinion misses the point.

Many ppl on these boards and OC community in general dont know much about PSU. As proven by AtivsNvidia. Many buy 1200W psu to power a simple gaming system which is and overkill. YES a better PSU will give you ultimately better OC / more stable lines / better efficiency and for peak overclock will make the difference.

Will your PSU run your system?
YES
Will your PSU run your system efficiently?
Probably not
Will your PSU enable you to run Furmark and Prime95 at the same time without crashing?
Probably yes
Will your PSU and volt lines suffer past 50% load?
Probably yes.

At the end of the day my advice would be for you try it. If dont work you would have learned something and THEN you can order a 60-100£ PSU.
