Cigar Aficionados

Out of interest, how many cigars do you folks smoke in a day and do you smoke one in one sitting or just let it go out and have it over a few sittings.
One other question if I may - do you smoke cigars exclusively or do you smoke normal cigarettes also.

Cigarettes - no. During summer, I probably have a cigar every week or two. In winter that becomes much less frequent, simply because it's not enjoyable to sit outside in the cold. I always smoke them in one sitting. A cigar that is allowed to cool before being relit can taste quite acrid.

I do it because I find it an extremely relaxing experience. It's an excuse to take an hour or so away from everything. It gives me something enjoyable to focus on for that time. For that reason, I only tend to buy aged, interesting or otherwise special cigars in small quantities. I don't see the point in smoking something cheap and average as a habit. The only exception is for a social scenario where my focus may be on conversation rather than smoking, I may take a fairly reliable and reasonably priced cigar.

The temp is my humidor is 72.4f is that ok?

I have the central heating switched off and have the humi in a coolish room.

72 is fine and below beetle hatching territory. If it starts going north and you're getting 75/75 plus you should probably let it breath for a bit to reduce humidity and see if there's somewhere cooler to stick the humidor.

When I was running mine, anything between 68/68 to 72/72 would have been fine to me. But aiming for 70/70 is considered the "sweet spot".

Just been going through a few bits and bobs that were my dads, he used to work for a cigar importers back in the 70s in London and I've got a couple of old cigar boxes that are missing one or two that I'm looking to fill back up :)

One is a 10 box of Partagas shorts, these seem easy enough to find in singles, but the one I'm struggling with is a Joya De Nicaragua Clasico Numero 6.

Have dropped one of the uk online cigar places a note to see if they can help, just want to complete the boxes again so that they aren't missing any :)

Also can't remember for the life of me the name of the company he used to work for back then, for some reason I'm thinking it started with a P but could be barking up the wrong tree. Have got a picture of him hand rolling a cigar somewhere too.

Hunters & Frankau?

Only just come across this thread and it's a great one, some good posts in here. I'm quite partial to a cigar myself, The Partagas 898 was the last one I had.. a very nice spicey mellow tone to it, I smoked it over 2 hours with some brandy on my birthday.

As I'm getting older they interest me more and more and there are some good suggestions in here and I will definitely spend some time looking at different humidors and selections.

someone gave me a box of king edward cigars. do they need to be stored in a humi or can you just keep them in the box they came in?
