Cigar Aficionados

Currently having a Partagas Serie E No. 2. It's a bit ruined, as it hasn't been stored right but it's a nice earthy smoke. A good bit of leather as well. Nice, but it's been damaged by the lack of storage.

What's the easiest (read: quickest & cheapest) way to get it back to its best?

Pairing it with a Laphroaig 10. Which is beautiful.

Depends on how bad it has been stored and for how long. If it has really dried out for a long time, it'll never smoke as good. You can save it so that it could be smokeable but the flavour profile is likely to change significantly.

There's no fast way to do it either. Rehydrating slowly is the key. If you put a very dry cigar into a humidor with a good moisture source it can suck it up very quickly and burst. I had this problem before and a few weeks in a ziploc bag with gradually increasing humidity up to a stable 65% had it sorted enough to go back into the humidor.

bit necro but thanks for the advice got myself a bolivar, not going to store it for long hope to smoke it around Christmas / newyear time :)

Christmas sticks ahoy!

I bought a few random favourites. Normally I would have bought them this time last year and let them sit but I took a notion. I may let some of them sit for a while if I don't get the time to smoke them.

Top shelf of the humidor with the other ready-to-smokes. Where to begin?!

L to R:
Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro
Partagas Lusitanias
Montecristo No. 1
Fonseca No. 1
Cohiba Siglo II
Cohiba Behike 52
Zino Platinum Sceptre Chubby
Bolivar Petit Belicosos LE 2009

The bottom of the humidor is all Cohiba Esplendidos which I'm chipping away at when I get a chance.

Let's see your Xmas smokes!

www.cgarsltd.co.uk have been very good for me. They have one of the better non-Cuban selections in the UK.

For more than a couple of sticks I usually go with www.cigarone.com who are based in Switzerland and offer competitive pricing. The delivery does not mention tobacco on the declaration - I've never been charged duty. Usually takes a day or two.

Cigar aficianados:

Is it better to cut a cigar or - as I tried last weekend - poke a hole with a match?

If it is the former can anyone recommend a nice cigar cutter?

Any cheap cutter will do (mines just a plastic cutter from cgarsltd). You can buy more elaborate and ornate ones but meh. Just make sure you're cutting it right (the cap, not hacking off a chunk of end).

Edit: Also, make sure it will fit (the hole is the right gauge for your stick).

Can anyone recommend something to go with bourbon for a novice at a reasonable price? Preferably shipping from UK as I'd need them by next weekend.

How much are you looking to spend? How many do you want? If you're after a number of them do you have the means to store them at the right temp/humidity? My thoughts from the last page. Cgarsltd if you want from the UK. Scuzi uses them. I use them. I've no complaints in my experience of using them. Orders always arrive quick and well packed.

Just for two of us and we'll smoke them there and then during the weekend so not sure if storage makes a difference, I'll check that place out cheers!

In that case, if you're going to toke them over the weekend, I'd recommend just picking up a wee sampler of something. CgarsLTD do various samplers. 3, 4, 5 or more sticks, various prices, various brands, various strengths/flavours. Gives you an opportunity to try a few types, rather than us recommending one and you try it and think "that's horrible!" :D

Something like this or this. £50 or less. Tubed (so will keep provided you don't crack the seal before smoking). One each for after dinner with a drink in the sun. Lovely.

Does anyone know if you can pick up 'starter' cigars somewhere in Luton airport?

I'm off to a wedding on Friday and would like to pick up something mild and easy to smoke.

Not sure about Luton but most airports will have a humidor in the duty free section, at the very least stocked with a few tubos (in a metal tube) varities. Of the most common, I'd recommend a Montecristo Petit Tubos as a fairly mild and easy smoke. To be on the safe side, steer clear of Cohiba other than the Siglo I, and Bolivar. Anything else should be fairly solid but if you can find the Monte it'd be a safe bet IMO.

Looking for a humidor if anyone can help me? Father in laws 60th;

Looking to spend around £80 for a humidor, it'll be his first and should only be a small jobby, he doesn't keep a big collection! :)

Any ideas please?
