Cinemas: how strict are they on age?

Anyone taken their kids to see age rated movies they're not eligible for recently?

Are they strict on it these days?

Quite fancy going to see Furiosa with my son, but he's 14 and it's rated 15. He's somewhat enormous for his age, having just breached 6ft, if that helps.

Any recent experience?

I suppose another question is:

Has anyone taken their only-just-eligible child to an age rated movie, and did the cinema check their age? A 15 year old to a 15 cert, for example.

I don't want to waste £20 on tickets to find out really

Our local Cineworld is fairly hot on checking ages, even when my son is with me. I don't have a problem with it.

After all, Natasha Kaplinsky can't be wrong, can she?

How do they check for kids? Just ask for age/DOB? Can't imagine many 15 year old have ID.
