Cinematic Mod 10 problems

I downloaded the latest Cinematic Mod 10 for HL2 over the weekend, followed the instructions, started a HL2 game, then installed the mod but I keep getting:
"Unable to load GCF file" errors when trying to load any of the CM games from the start menu, as instructed.

To be sure, I uninstalled CM10, started HL2, EP1 and EP2, then re-installed the mod. Same problem.

Anyone else had this, or know of a fix for it? Do all 3 episodes need a save game prior to installing the mod? It isn't fully clear. :(

Fancying a blast through the game modded, to see what achievements I unlock without too much effort :p
 
Achievements may not work with the Cinematic mod, since it starts using its own exe. file. Or at least it did in previous version, so I assume Steam won't register that you are playing. Achievements also dont work if you play with the developers commentary on.
 
That's a bit naff then. Not the end of the world though. Not at home to try anything in the way of testing/experiments but I'm hoping for suggestions on what might fix the problem. Can test them this evening
 
Its currently broken due to the recent engine update Valve released for the games. They are working on a fix, I believe.

Are you running the 10.42 version?
 
Thanks iviv, thats handy to know before I spent any more time trying to get it working today :)

Was trying to run 10.02, didnt find anything newer than that when I looked.
 
I had the same problem. You need to install Source SDK, Source SDK Base and Source SDK Base 2007 You can find these in the Tools section in Library on Steam. Run each one once (I didn't finish the benchmarks) and it should work. Did for me anyway.
 
It may have been fixed in 10.42, so its worth grabbing to check. And if not, well, at least you've got the largest part downloaded :p
