http://www.cinemaware.com/news/2011/08/14/welcome-to-the-new-cinemaware-com/
Hello and welcome, Cinemaware fans, to the new official Cinemaware website. As many of our fans know, Cinemaware has been inactive for a number of years, with no new product announcements. We heard the frustrated calls of our fans and are ready to get back to making games with the high caliber of graphics, sound, gameplay and presentation polish that made us famous, and we want you to be an essential part of it!
That’s why we’ve made the new Cinemaware.com a place where our fans can gather to discuss not just our past titles, but the ones we’re planning to release in the not-too-distant future as well. We want you to collaborate with us on the creation of the next great Cinemaware games, and here on the site you’ll have an opportunity to do just that. This is also where you’ll find a whole array of resources dedicated to the games that put us on the map, including classic soundtracks, art and even the games themselves, playable free-of-charge in popular retro emulators. Plus, since we know our fans love to show their loyalty whenever possible, a new range of Cinemaware goods will soon be available from the site’s CinemaWEAR store which is currently being planned.

Most excitingly, right here on the site is where you’ll soon be able to play a selection of Game Featurettes – classic mini-games from our retro catalog rebuilt for the web, along with new ones inspired by our biggest hits.
There’s a lot more to come, too, as Cinemaware moves forward with multiple projects for the web, tablet and mobile platforms, so stay tuned … as our fans’ dedication to our legacy will be essential for the exciting future we are building around the Cinemaware brand. Thanks for being a part of the new Cinemaware.com and we look forward to seeing you on our site often!

We thank all our fans for their great support,
The Cinemaware Team
However

Defender of the Crown, It Came from the Desert, and Wings to appear. It’s now in licensing discussions with other fan-favourite Amiga developers like The Bitmap Brothers, Magnetic Fields, Cope-Com, Archer MacLean, and Turrican maker Factor 5.
IPhone

"The desert.. Unchanged for millions of years.." :D

It Came From the Desert 1&2 gave me many hours of fun.

Good old Amiga.

Cool. Cinemaware were one of my favourite developers back in the day. Defender of the Crown was stonking!

Hello all!

With only three days to go, we find ourselves in the very final days of this Kickstarter campaign. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our backers (and fans at large) for having contributed enormously to this campaign. Although we have not been successful in funding this project, your participation has mattered a LOT to us – we did not reach as many Cinemaware fans as we wished, but those that did come, those that did post on here and contributed their feedback (suggestions, criticism, ideas, wish-lists, etc.), and all of you who tried to spread the word on this campaign at large – all of you MATTER. It has been a great experience and seeing fans actively participate in such way (even disagreeing on many issues) is encouraging and energizing. Why? Because it shows us that you CARE. After all, we honestly consider ALL of you part of Cinemaware – without YOU, there would be NO revival of the company, its games, spirit and legacy.

It is always hard to produce a creative endeavor like a videogame and be able to please everyone, but it is only through your active participation that a project like Wings: Director’s Cut (and a brand like Cinemaware) can become better and closer to something which all of you want to play and hold dear to your hearts.

Rest assured that even though this campaign has not achieved its goal, we will NOT be going away! We will be back to the drawing board, as well as proceeding on a lot of oher initiatives which are already underway and which will, one small step at a time, bring Cinemaware forth and closer to greater, better games in the future. But it is ONLY with your ACTIVE support that we will be able to get there! Many of you have asked how you could help, what kind of things you could do and collaborate with in order to help Cinemaware move forward and develop the game YOU want.

Therefore, we have tried to put together a list of suggestions of activities which you can easily pursue to help us (and the Cinemaware community at large) thrive & prosper so that we can bring you new games in the near future. Every single bit helps, no matter how little time you have to dedicate to Cinemaware! Here are some ideas (we are sure many of you can suggest many more):

- First and foremost, visit and REGISTER at our site at www.cinemaware.com! By registering (either to post on our Forum or to download our classic game files) you are automatically signed up for our news updates (unless you opt-out)! This is the most important thing you can do to ensure you are kept abreast of all our news and activities. Given that nearly 900 of you have reached this Kickstarter campaign and were willing to pledge, it would be great to see ALL of you sign up on our site so we could keep all of you connected and abreast of our acitivities! Then, next time we have a new funding campaign planned, all of you will know about it in advance and able to contribute suggestions for us to consider!

- After signing up on the site, POST in our Forum and actively participate with other fans in discussions, suggestions and ideas. We monitor and read all posts! Please participate!

- Join our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cinemaware and join the community there! Facebok is a great way to ensure Cinemaware is visible as a thriving online social community and to quickly and virally spread any news about our activities!

- Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/cinemaware and let your own followers become aware of what is going on with us!

- Watch and share videos with others about our history and games by visiting our YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/cinemaware

- Download Defender of the Crown for iOS (Emulated Amiga Version): http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/defender-of-the-crown/id447552008?mt=8. Every single download helps us in financing other activities which can bring us closer to developing new, future products!

- Keep an eye out and download The King of Chicago (Emulated Amiga Version) which is soon coming out for iOS as well: http://www.cinemaware.com/games/the-king-of-chicago-ios/
- Better yet, gift our iOS games to others and help spread Cinemaware’s game legacy! (Android versions coming soon!)

- Play some of our classics on your favorite ***** to re-live some great memories! Bring along someone new to Cinemaware games and show them a bit of gaming history!

- Make it a PERSONAL goal to find other Cinemaware fans who might not have heard of this campaign or our activities! Have them sign-up at our site or Facebook page, and help us grow our community again!

- Even better – try to show other gamers who are not familiar with Cinemaware’s legacy what great gaming experiences this company has contributed to the history of videogames! It could be your gaming buddy! Your friends and family at large! Your kids! Every single person matters.

If we keep pursuing these activities dilligently and focus our energies on moving forward, we are certain that soon all of you will be playing great, new games by Cinemaware! Help us keep this legacy alive! We will be counting on you in the months/years to come. And remember:

HEROES LIVE FOREVER!!!

The Cinemaware Team
Looks like the kickstarter is going to fail but to be expected( bad advertising, lack of game shown e.t.c ) however i hope they continue and bring us some better stuff. I'd love to see a It came from the desert 2!

I just want an up to date version of Wings.

Still in my top 10 games of all time.

Although, talking to Bitmap Brothers - Gods, Cadaver, Chaos Engine, Chaos Engine 2, Xenon 2 and most importantly.... Speedball 2! :D

If only they weren't focussed on iphone... urgh... :(

Wings & Rocket Ranger were both remastered in 2002 I believe but the outsourced developer producer stole some money from Cinemaware which should have been used to pay the developers  so they both got blocked legally from being released as developers did not get paid but Cinemaware did not want to pay twice so it ended up in court & never got settled AFAIK.

But considering the 2 dual PC/MAC games below are both glorified flash games (they use some early version of Flash/Dreamweaver to code them) its no big loss & 3 Stooges cartoon gfx do not suit the game. Amiga & C64 versions are still the best. DOTC remaster is the basis of the online browser game Cinemaware host nowadays & the best looking version of DOTC.

Cinemaware planned a series of classics remastered for the PC/PS2/Xbox (why the vol 1 vol2 on the spine) but the legal batle stopped anymore being made sadly & since then the company has been in limbo & changed hands several times I think they will never be what they were again no-one from that era has any involvement with Cinemaware since the early 1990's.

When I have the time I will take some pics for you of my Amiga collection of Cinemaware games from the 1980-90's ;)

I've got the remaster of DotC somewhere.

It wasn't great compared to the Amiga version. Then again, I've still got the Amiga version. :D

Please don't make me cry :(

On another note i just got some wicked dos stuff and my amiga stuff is pretty full, can't really go into it :p. Come on you 1tb external !

The Defender of the Crown Rehash wasn't really made by 'Cinemaware'. It was an outsourced project with their label on it.

Yep they also made EGA versions of Rocket Ranger & a few others. Basically anything EGA=4 colours or something equally lousy=avoid your better of with the C64 or Amiga version although Sinbad on Amiga was rubbish. C64 version was better & both C64 & Atari ST versions had slightly different sections/gfx.

Rocket Ranger was best on Amiga but C64 version again had some different gfx & game lvls. Atari ST Rocket Ranger is terrible though.

DOTC on Atari ST was better than the Amiga version. but again C64 version had slightly different gfx in the intro and an extra screen or 2!

3 Stooges on Amiga & C64 again contain slight graphical differences.

Cinemaware website actually legally host free to download emulated roms of their own games & have done for over 10 years BTW ;)

DOTC was actually one of the first games to ever sell over a million copies I believe along with Ghostbusters a few years before it.

What I didnt realise until about a week ago and reading through old Games Machine mags, that DOTC was superior on ST, I always thought the Amiga version was the best, but it seems not. Shame they have ported the Amiga one and not the ST one to ios.

Yes thats right it was because at the time the developers were more used to the ST so most early Amiga games were very poor until the devs go to grips with the custom hardware then the ST sank rapidly & the Amiga ruled for a few years (I owned both machines in the mid 1980's from new & even bought the same game twice on both machines some had shocking differences especially Psygnosis & Cinemaware games (except for DOTC & Sinbad the rest were dire on ST).

Part of this was also down to technical specs like ST disk drives being only 720k vs 880k on Amiga then the custom amiga chips like fat agnus etc etc. ST sound in general was very weak & sub 8bit std (C64 soundchip was/is still an awesome beast!!). The thing which really sank the ST was the low onboard Ram limit of 512kb & how hard it was to upgrade the onboard chips with a soldering iron (I attempted that once its tricky & hard). Once the Amiga got 1mb as std that combined with the 880kb disks sunk Atari & they never recovered.

Amiga games in generals just look/sound/play better than ST apart from a few exceptions.

Atari ST ruled 1985-1987 then Amiga all the way until 1992 when the Megadrive, high piracy rates & early PC gaming (along with Commodore's corporate greed sunk the brand forever as a major force).
