Right so my friend has finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade his C2D system! I had to replace his PSU around a year ago so he has a OCZ 600W PSU in there already which should be able to handle the new components and he'll be keeping the case, hard drives and DVD drives so essentially just need to upgrade the CPU, RAM, motherboard and graphics card.

He's recently started using a Adobe editing software including Photoshop, Premier and After Effects so needs a little umph in that department and does like to play an occasional game and will definitely be getting the new Rome 2 Total War and is still playing all the other games and also loves his Football Manager. I've been out the game for a little while but quick look on the intrawebz suggests these are all pretty good mid range components?

Let me know what you all think and if I'm missing some other gems out there, thank you!

Intel has a new socket out next month called Haswell (1150) and Nvidia could well be dropping some updated GPUs by the end of this month. So he may well want to wait.

The Z68 was designed for sandybridge, I'm not sure how happy it will be with that Ivybridge CPU (it may need a BIOS update first) and for the price you can get a newer Z77 mobo anyway.....

The LX is better than the LX2, the Z77-D3H is better still but I'm trying to keep costs down to pay for the i5 3570K.

If your mate can wait a few weeks, you might be able to pick him up a bargain in the MM when Haswell comes out, probably about 7th June or there abouts..

I'll be out of the country by then unfortunately so this is something I can only help him with in the next 2 weeks.

Cheers, although for Adobe Photoshop and rest of the package aren't nVidia cards normally better?
