That's because most routers are garbage. General rule is if the case is plastic it will be unreliable :p

I see people here spending £200+ every couple of years on the latest prosumer router, it's much more sensible to separate out the functions of wireless access and routing, and just keep a stable platform going. I have a Sonicwall NSA 220 handling things and it's rock solid.

not really, prosumer routers clearly arent aimed at you if you are happy messing about with config files that need either a decent manual or some kind of certification.

most people are happier navigating a web page instead of memorising command lines. i have a draytek at home, and it is more than good enough and stable enough for home use. its a plastic box and it works fine.
