Have a 3524-XL-EN-PWR here which seems to have "lost" its 24 10/100 ethernet ports.

Running a show interfaces command from a console session shows the default VLAN and the two gigabit interfaces but nothing else.

At bootup the console also shows:

Code:
00:00:10: %LINK-4-ERROR: is experiencing errors
FOUND an unknown transceiver on port 1
FOUND an unknown transceiver on port 2
FOUND an unknown transceiver on port 3

Etc.

Is it buggered, or does someone have a suggestion of where to start looking to get it working again?

I've reloaded the default config but so far it hasn't helped.

Could be corrupted IOS, though I reset it using the helper image and it didn't complain about the files.

Just noticed a couple of POST errors though, here's a copy of the bootup sequence captured from the console port:

Oh, once it's powered up the FA0/1 light just blinks green-amber.

I plugged my fluke into it and it registers as a 10/100 port, but the switch doesn't make the port active.

I have the same problem with my 3524-XL-EN-PWR - it ran fine when i first got it but now it crashes out after about an hour.

It's not temperature and i've reflashed IOS, best guess is that the power supply is unstable, or the RAM or flash has errors.

I don't think its repairable, not when they're on ebay for £60-100.

Yer, that POST shows all sorts of RAM errors - irritating as I use them a cheap way of powering some 1230AG access points that are going out on a tour.

Have about a dozen of them and so far have found them to be reliable.

But yep, under £100 on the online flea market I'm not fussed if it can't be fixed easily.

This one came from one of those used equipment reseller types so it will be heading back on Monday I think.

That's PoE switch, has it definitely got the correct PoE IOS image? it'll be different to the standard 3500 series image because of the PoE hardware support.

It could be RAM related but I'd expect more sporadic errors rather than a consistent seemingly driver related one. RAM can be replaced but if they're on ebay for £100 then its cheaper to buy a switch.

Could be an IOS mixup, would hope whatever numpty did that before selling it isn't working in the industry though :)

I've someone on Ebay (office clearance buyers/ kit reclaimers etc) sell me a Cisco 1720 with a completely wrong PSU. PS/2 style connector which isn't vaguely similar to the 6pin PCI-E esq one it uses.

I also bought some rack mounting brackets for a Cisco 2500 series, blatently kncoked up in a guys garage but it was for a home lab so i didn't care so long as they worked.... When they arrived the screws were the correct thread but about 1mm to big in diameter (which is big for screw thread sizes) thus rendering them useless.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if someone somewhere had decided to keep the fancy IOS on them and re-flashed with a generic switch IOS.

When i reflashed the IOS on my PWR, i just went to the Cisco website and navigated through Support > Downloads > Switches > 3500XL > 3524-PWR-XL and it gave me version c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC17.bin

Still had the same problem.

Yer, I've checked and it is running the correct IOS.

Going to send it back to where it came from as DOA I think.
