Cisco 857W - is this a stable adsl router?

Parents need a new router as their linksys one is giving no end of problems with dropped connections and crashing.

Requirements:

Wireless - strong signal over a reasonable distance
Reliable - doesn't need constant reboots
Stable with large downloads
Good with bittorrent
Wireless security that doesn't cripple the wireless connections with dropouts
Not belkin/netgear/linksys as I've had bad experiences with them all.

I've narrowed it down to the cisco. My understanding of networking amounts to playing around with routers mentioned and knowing the cisco stuff has an excellent reputation.

Cisco, from my understanding won't be easy to setup, how true is this? I've got a couple of weeks off to play with it and get it working (so as long as its not a nightmare i'm up for the challenge), and I'm assuming there is good documentation out there (and the wealth of knowledge here).

I read somewhere about annual subscriptions for updates, is this true and how much would it run to?

Will the cisco be overkill(if so what would you recommend, stability is the key requirement), or is it simply a case of you get what you pay for?

Why not just get a Draytek, cheaper and far easier to setup... and most would argue just as good as the Cisco in a home environment.

well cisco make very very good kit, it's not immune from failure, i've had a few switch ports go bad over time.

The routers are very and rarely break if they're configured correctly and big enough for the job (not an issue here really...)

the stand alone wireless kit is very very good, so i assume the built in stuff won't be bad either.

It'll certainly do the job, it isn't easy for someone whos never worked with cisco before to set up but you'll learn something along the way.

overkill, probably... for a home router for my parents i'd go for a decent 3com box, even for me the only reason for having a cisco at home is so i can test things out on it (who runs full mesh iBGP on their home network? umm, that'd be me...)

The reason I'm thinking of the cisco is that there seems to be very little between the belkin/netgears and this cisco. I saw the draytek 2800G, but i've read some negative things about it as well, but if people here rate it, I could be tempted. The bottom line is they just want something that works and can be forgotten about, and cost isn't really an issue.

well i told my parents to get an all in one 3com box and the only trouble they've ever had is when the adsl itself goes down, the box just works.

i simply don't rate belkin/netgear/dlink/draytek (yeah, i'm a network snob, sue me). If i wanted cheapest i'd look at linksys, not the best but never let me down seriously and comply to standards well, after that I'd look at 3com, beyond that it'd be cisco...
