Hi Chaps,

I am looking to add a Cisco Aironet to my current Cisco equipment list to enable me to get some hands on experience with and also pass the Cisco Wireless CCNA / CCNP exams.

What AP would you guys recommend?

1120AG?
1130AG?
1230AG?
1240AG?

Thanks

I've got 1232's and 1242's in both my home lab, and in the office connected to a WLC 4402.

Lovely pieces of kit with good range. Lack of n is a shame, but certainly not a must-have IMO. If I want reliable speed, I use a cable!

Good thing about 1242s is that they are usually attainable on the cheap. Don't forget that you can also make Lightweight ones Autonomous, and vice-versa, so don't be put off by LAP models instead of AP models.

Oh right, I didn't know that. Is it a simple case of changing the IOS image? I take you'll need a WLC for a LWAPP AP to work correctly?

Also are there any "gotchas" to watch out for?

Thanks :D

It is a case of flashing with a full IOS image yes, and you do need a Wireless LAN controller for LWAPP to work.

Other than that I don't think there is anything else to be weary of.

Unless I'm mistaken (don't think I am) you can take a stand alone model and turn it into a light weight but you can't take a light weight AP and make it stand alone; unless things have changed since I last checked. That is ofcourse from when it was bought in the factory; If you have a stand alone that went to a light weight, you can put it back again. Unfortuantly all the ones I use are standalone and dont have means to test with an original lightweight model

Edit - Pretty sure I'm right. Quick check shows that APs that were ORIGINALLY light weight, have a different P/N to ones that were originally Autonomous. Basically get Autonomous ones where possible
