hi guys

My new gigabit switch just arrived :D (Cisco Linksys SPS2024)

However as i am experimenting with managed switches, i have a really nooby question :/

I cant work out how to 'manage' the switch, i.e get into the WEB UI that it has to configure it. I know i can do it by the 'console' serial connection on the front but i don't have the right cable :/

i assume that it is possible to configure it over the network?

if so how can i achieve this? i have looked under network in windows explorer and its not listed there :L

if not what cable do i need to manage it from the console port?

sorry again for the noob question :L

cheers

cheers that worked, however its asking for a username and password, however i cannot see one on the device at all :/ i bought it off ebay,

also my router was at 192.168.1.254 before, how will i access that now?

great that worked :)

i have changed the ip of the router.

when i try and log into the switch, it only loads some parts of the page, i.e it only loads the titles of the sections but if you click on them it takes you no where just stays on a basically blank screen....

any ideas?

yeh ive tried chrome and IE, in IE it didnt even display the sub menu hyperlinks at the top :/

yes i tried to look for a factory reset button, couldnt find one though.... the only thing that could maybe be it was a hole in the side with a padlock symbol next to it?

cheers

right i have sorted the problem by using compatibility mode in IE

However i now have another problem in that everything seems to be running reeeeeeeaalllyyyy sloowwwlllyyy :(

i am copying a 11gb mkv file to a server from my computer and im getting around 10megabytes/second!! which is terrible for gigabit ethernet, before on the unmanaged switch i was getting over 100megabytes/second.

jumbo frames are enabled on all the NIC's, however i dont know how to enable it on the switch, im pretty sure it supports it though....

I am assuming its something i havent set up properly thats making it so slow?

any help would be greatly appriciated :)

cheers

I havent touched anything on QoS and I cant see anything enabled on the page.
port aggregation, isnt that linking two connections together like teaming?

i don think there would be any point in resetting as i have hardly touched any of the settings, all ive done is changed the ip address, change the names of the ports and now enabled jumbo frames
