I have recently started configuring a Cisco pix 506 with the latest firmware, but every time I specify the network settings for the pcs attached, they can no longer access the internet. If I turn on the DHCP in the PIX and let the machines obtain ip automatically, it all works ok.

I've double checked the config and it all seems logical e.g setting the gateway to the pix and setting the first dns on each machine to the pix also. The subnet is correct.

What have I done wrong?

Have you got another DHCP server?

Have you tried the machines on statics in the same range/subnet?

Thats what I am trying to achieve.

Well the obvious thing is - set it manually and take a capture of ipconfig /all, then take the same capture for the PIX running DHCP and spot your mistake...

Been there, done that. Bizzare isn't it.

Now the thing is letting my main machine with static ip access the internet but my laptop cannot.

When you say can't connect - you mean at all? Have you tried a traceroute to your ISP DNS servers or something to see if you get IP connectivity to or beyond the firewall and it's just DNS being a problem? Don't know what kind of experience you have here...

Beyond that I'd suspect a policy issue on the PIX but I hate the damn things personally so I can't help beyond that...
