The company I work for is currently looking for a cisco router that will replace the current one we own. The one we currently own is one of the "3560" series and we are having bandwidth issues. We need over 100mbps and the ability to use VPN and their 'integrated services'

This is a wild question and I don't expect a reply to be honest but I thought I would see if anyone has had the same issue or if not any information they can provide!

FYI the company is around 30-35 people

the 3560 is a switch.

If you want a 48 port gigabit switch try this one 48-Port Gigabit Switch: PoE (SGE2010P-G5) comes in at under £1500. but you could get one for £600 if you wanted. Are you use you want a switch or a router?

I am not a cisco guy so maybe wait for one of the ccna guys to answer.

No point going up to gigabit switch unless your cabling is cat5e+. You should also have your servers plugging in at more than 1gigabit to really utilize the gigabit clients.

Have a look at the later 800 series of routers. An 892W might be good for you.

This is where i'm completely out of my depth :) My manager told me it was a UC3560 or something along those lines.. It basically lets us VPN and access the network so I don't think it does any routing? Maybe I should just leave it to him. I have just been doing some research

The UC will be a router for the Unified Communications product line I would imagine (SOmething like this? . As per your other thread, you need to detail what it is you need as a better ISR will only provide a certain range of features. The 800 series won't give you the throughput you need anyway, you'll be looking at something in the 1900 or 2900 range for ISRs, assuming even an ISR would be best, as an ASA might be better depending on your needs

As GhostlyPea has said, you need something that will give you the throughput.
I'd go with a firewall and a layer 3 switch, but it depends on your budget.

Ideally (for your needs) an ASA 5520 and suitable Layer 3 switch of some description.

Less ideally would be a 2900 or 3900 series router, but honestly you're getting less speed and functionality by going for one box.

Even a 5510 would be suitable combined with a 3560 for a core (debatable that's even required), however the newer ASA range is out, and has been for a while and there are some massive improvements in smaller chassis across the range (5512-x/5515-X)
