Cisco switch console connection

Is there any way of getting onto a cisco switch without using the console cable?

my current machine doesn't have a serial port and i need to get the software revision from the switch.

SSH?

Don't you need the IP address for a telnet session though? can't remember if i've configured it with an IP

Yep, you'll need the IP address for telnet, ssh, http or https access. Without the IP address you're stuck with using the console port.

oh well....will have to get a lappy from somewhere with a serial port.

Trying to get as much info as poss about it so i can flea bay it....need the funds.

either via http or telnet but you have to give the switch an ip to do that.
