Cisco VPN Local Printing

Hi guys,

I'm in a bit of a pickle :S

Basically one of our clients uses the Cisco VPN client from his home to connect to his workstation at work. And he prints out what he needs to in the VPN which in turn prints out to his office printer which is connected directly to his workstation.

However he claims he is unable to print to a local installed printer.

Is there a way around this? To be able to print to a local printer from within the VPN?

Any advice appreciated

This is more likely a TS (RDP) issue rather than a VPN issue. Is the RDP client set to map printers? If so does the remote workstation (the one in the office) have the drivers for that printer? Check the even logs on the remote workstation and i'm sure you'll find a load of warnings about cannot find driver for printer.

Bottom line:
You need to install the printer drivers on the remote workstation.
 
Just to clarify you are saying that printing via rdp works when connected to vpn, but whilst connected to vpn he cannot print locally? Is the local printer directly connected or a network printer on his home lan? The cisco vpn software will usually block local lan access whilst connected. If its a locally attatched printer via usb or parallel there is no reason at all why it wont work.
 
Yup thats what im saying, he can print using RDP to his workstation printer, but his local printer isnt available. The home printer is just a USB printer so its connected directly.

Weird thing is the printer he uses at home and his workstation printer are identical :S so the drivers are already on the workstation
 
Edit: didnt see it was a USB printer. Very odd. There are options when opening an RDP connection, check that he isnt sending all local print jobs to the RDP session.
Start>Run>Mstsc>Options>Local Resources and then untick "printers" from the local devices section. Im not convinced that this would cause the problem, but its worth a shot.
