Cisgender

Seriously? Well, if you're born a male and later you go into operations to chop off your wee whacky wohoo, I'd class that as seriously abnormal. Especially those who are trying to convince 4 - 6 year olds to have sex changes.

It isn't even normal if you haven't had these operations to dress up in women's clothes.

Haha. Was on the news a few weeks ago that certain groups (think it was
the BBC?) wanted their children's programmes to feature more exploration of homosexuality, and that it should be promoted to kids as something they might want to explore :p

Frankly I wouldn't put it past the Beeb to pull something like that. If an adult wants to be gay that's all fine and dandy, but saying to kids "Hey now, have you tried being gay yet? You might like it!" is a bridge too far for me.

Here we are:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...arise-young-people-different-sexualities.html

Internal report from the BBC saying children's TV should feature more gay content.

Kids aren't going to catch "the gay" from it being promoted to them on TV any more than they'd listen to the TV and started earing food they utterly hated.

It simply doesn't work like that. The fact that they're promoting any orientation is however, bizarre.

You can catch "the gay"?

Yeah and in fairness the article/report doesn't talk in terms like that.

But it describes making young children "comfortable with same sex feelings" and giving them "gay role models" - and we're talking about young kids here.

Can't we let them be kids and work their sexuality out when they get older, or does the Beeb have to now put same-sex stories on the CBBC channel?

Where do you draw the line between tolerance and obsessive PC behaviour?

I think you;ll find the aim is to normalise being gay. Meaning more young people won't be as scared or worried about their sexual feelings if they so happen to find they like people of the same sex. Having gay role models also helps those that think they may be gay normalise it, as well as normalising homosexuality to those that aren't, meaning less bullying of those that are gay.

Because girl toys have far more potential for "damage" with regards to perceived gender roles. I'm talking about things like lego, where the female aimed sets are rubbish and very different to the regular lego.

It's a very real problem, and it's why people make a fuss about women studying and going into STEM fields, because society teaches women to behave a certain way.

Do you have any evidence of your statement around people making a fuss? Not once have I seen this. I have seen stupid attempts to make more women want to go into STEM fields, but thats completely different.

The problem I as a white male have is that I am being judged by the worst of white males, and yet being judged in that way is the very thing the LGBT / minorities / religious / aged etc groups object to.

Either you want to treat someone as an individual or not. You cannot apply that rule to one and not the other.

Gender reassignment surgery doesn't involve chopping off your 'wee whacky wohoo'. :p

Who's doing that?

'Normal' is such a loaded term. It's a word people use to ostracise those who a different to themselves.

From a purely lexical standpoint, I guess the term 'cisgender' makes perfect sense. I'm not going to start referring to myself as cisgender (but really, i don't find myself having to assert my sex at all), but as a term for a superset containing 'male' and 'female', each with the implication that those are the 'correct' genders for the person labeled as such, it makes sense.

Right?

....Er... yeah,l pretty sure it doesn't quite "work" like that ;)

Although to be honest I don't think children's programmes should feature any kind of sexuality.

It also usefully describes the overwhelming majority in terms of sex identity. Transsexuals are abnormal, I don't see why anyone would dispute that fact.

Having white skin is abnormal but I'm sure you'd be offended if someone used the term to label you.

white people don't feel compelled to black up to feel more normal though do they.

I always did wonder why people bothered going to tanning salons, sun bathed and used spray tan. People seem to think its more fashionable or towards an ideal, which is funny because in the east, its more fashionable to be lighter skinned. I often feel that many women look much better with pearly white skin as it suits their look, also that no one looks good in tango orange.

isn't the light skin thing to do with social class? i.e. if you work out in the fields you'll be tanned.

You haven't seen it? Well it mustn't exist!

What I'm saying is that girls are fussed over about entering STEM fields. I'm saying this is a good thing to encourage women to do such things and not feel a social obligation to behave a certain way.

I'm not judging you or anyone else, I'm saying people should just be allowed to be people and not be tied in to any gender roles that society forces on them arbitrarily.
