This looks really promising, but after the fiasco of SimCity I guess anything would. Anyone else interested in this one? How do previous Cities games play? What's the hype like surrounding this one?

Played XL far too much and have pre-ordered this as you get a nice 50% discount if you're a previous player. :)

cities skyline is coming soon

I think it's different people and a totally different game to citiesxl

That water sim is cool as hell I wonder if you can flood cities

Different game? So Cities XL is coming out end of this month and the Cities Skylines later?

Yeah, its more than a tad confusing, Skylines is made by the same team who did Cities in Motion. The XL Series at least follows a more uniform pattern.

I've only just found Skylines and im really impressed by it, looks similar to SimCity but with more effort, less 'just give em that, itll do' etc.
Map sizes look decent, and while it starts small (looks bigger than SC though) you can expand into 8 more plots, 3x3, 9x1, a L-shape, S-shape etc. I think the world plot is perhaps 5x5, so maybe not 9x1 but you get the idea.
The XL/XXL maps look far bigger (never played them tbh - and here's why), but they have a solid reputation, and its for releasing regular versions with the same bugs the last one did, which never get fixed.
Stuff like that really puts me off. Didnt their first title have paid/sub online, which flopped? or was that another title? I suspect thats why ive never looked at them properly to begin with, plus the long-standing issues put me off giving it a look again.

I dont think Skylines will be far off, before Easter most likely, but its looking like it'll be SimCity 2.0. Bigger maps but not huuge (10 bigger though, surely), people who actually have a home and job, not 'agents' who travel to the nearest available job/home at the time. 1-way roads, and the freedom to make (and duplicate/share) complex junctions etc.
I quite like SimCity, its a broken mess in a matchbox plot, and Skylines looks like its fixed a lot of that. Whether its better than XXL or even any of the XL's ive no idea, havent played any/either of them, but im excited by it, and if its the worse of the 2 city builders, i think most (reasonable) people will be very happy.
