Now I have 2 babies, and a baby bottle steriliser, if needs cleaning every couple of weeks via boiling water and citric acid. Now i've run out of acid powder as it only came with a little;

I went into tesco's and said we dont see it as people use it with cocaine

I went into sainsburys and they said the "think" its a phamacy control substance but they arent sure

So is it a phamcy product or can someone tell me where to get it from?

its not a controlled substance. its found in lemons.

use lemon juice, and then rinse well.

It isnt a controlled substance. The person who told you it is doesnt know what he is talking about. Just because people use it with coke doesnt mean it's illegal/controlled. You dont see tescos banning candles and teaspoons, 2 items any junkie uses daily.

I've seen it in many stores. The one that comes to my mind is in chinese/asian stores, next to the numerous packets of chilli power, curry power, seeds, herbs etc. They come in bags of 200g i think. There are numerous legitimate uses of citric acid usually in baking, including making sherbert.....mmmmm.... yummm....

That what i thought guys but the only shops open at the time were tescos + sainsburys.. i'll have a look tomorrow

It is not used with cocaine. I won't say what it is used for though, because that'll just get this thread locked.

It is associated with drug use, but as long as you don't want huge quantities and you don't look like a smackhead you should be able to pick it up from a pharmacy. I worked in a pharmacy for a short time when I was a student and whilst the stuff is not actually controlled in any legal sense if the staff didn't like the look of you or you didn't have a good reason why you wanted it we just told people we didn't have any.

What is the citirc acid supposed to do? I assume it is just supposed to remove the limescale?

Why, what is the 'thread legal' difference between coke and the thing you are talking about? I know what drug you are on about, but it is not like we are telling the guy how to sort his stuff out...

As far as I remember it's something that isn't actually a pharmacy only product, but that will usually only be sold in a pharmacy - and even then in a "keep it in a box behind the counter and say we haven't got any if they look dodgy". You shouldn't have any trouble if you ask for it in a chemist and don't look enormously suspicious ;-)

I guess the distinction between citric acid and, say, candles, is that candles will primarily be used for birthday cakes whereas heroin preparation would probably make up the vast majority of the citric acid sold if it was on the shelves in supermarkets in some areas.

Yeah pretty much but i dont like the look of the other products which do the same things (such as cilit bang) as they have other ingredients which seem unneeded

It's not the drug, but what the citric is used for: that takes us very close to instructions on drug taking, which is a no-no. Although PinkPig has given a lot of it away....

You could filter your water before boiling it in the steriliser. I can't recall ever using descaler in ours, then again the wife sorted those things out.

That sounds a lot like hard work, where as once every two weeks you turn it on without bottles but with the acid and hey presto 2 hours later with 0 effort its clean.. that is if i can get the stupid stuff

It isn't hard work really, tap water into the filter jug, leave 5 minutes, filtered water.
Compared to harrassment over citric acid powder it is nothing :)
