the citrix "starting" window seems to take 30-40 seconds on our farm,

is this normal? seems so slow... apps on the servers load instantly (if you rdp to them),

bear in mind we "should" have state of the art everything... so in theory its a best case scenario

if its normal we can live with it, but its annoying we,

User profiles, drive mappings, folder redirection, GPO processing is a BIG one, logon scripts etc etc.

In a big environment 30-40 secs sounds pretty reasonable.

EdgeSight (if you have Platinum licensing) can give you some info about the length of time each phase of the launch takes.

Taking it to the extreme, you can use Xperf and NetMon(??) to analyze the logon process.

is there any way to get the client side to log what its doing ?

GPO processing might be it i guess...

so 30 - 40 seconds is what would be expected generally? we have 50 citrix server hosting 50 apps for 1000 users, and about 1 billion groups...

30-40 seconds is pretty normal, the applications load instantly on the server when RDP'ing is correct as it has already loaded all of your profile and settings.

Is this happening for every application or just the once? Providing you have Citrix configured correctly and every application has the same session settings, screen resolution and it is not load balancing the applications rather than users then after the initial loading applications should load up instantly.

30-40 seconds is fast. On our farm you were lucky if your applications had loaded in the morning after going to make a cup of tea!

Which version of Xenapp? as said with Edgesight installed and configured, it will give you the breakdown of the logon process, GPO processing etc.

A big factor with logons is with mapped drives and GPO Preferences.

Also, are you using Loopback processing?
