I had a Volcane brand new when they came out, in 2 years the failures I had were
3 clutches
3 power steering pumps
2 radiators
2 aircon pumps
3 alternators
around 7 of the cables that connect the alternator to the battery
Engine mounting brackets
exhaust manifold
ECU
total of 4 months off road and had to call break down services on at least 6 occasions
there was a lot more but I can't remember all of it
fortunatley it was a lease car so eventually I got the lease company to give it up as a bad job
basically it was the biggest pile of **** you could ever imagine
mine was the 1.9 though so I'm sure the 2L are all perfect
I had one of these, and sold it around a month ago
I also had the 1.9i variant, but IMO is a far better engine than the 2.0i (largely because it is up on power)
They are starting to rust now, and don't pay any more than £400 for one. They are typically french cars, much like the 306 XSi but without the Peugeot Badge / panels. Fuel economy wasn't exactly great either (I can manage better MPG from my MR2)
I had a ZX 16v (155bhp) a couple of years ago and it was fantastic fun, would turn on a sixpence and had plenty of go but none of the electrics worked. By the time I got rid, the list of stuff which didn't work included
Windows (both)
Sunroof
Stereo
Speedometer
Tachometer
Headlights if you went over a bump - easily fixed by reaching under a dash and 'fettling' the relay
Synchros on 1st and 2nd
Fantastic, cheap bargain bangers but if you're looking for one in mint condition on which everything works, you might be in for a long wait .
£500 absolute max unless it's a 16v rather than a Volcane and even then, it's not where I would spend my money.
