I just played a bit of the Anno 1701 demo and think it's really great so far :) But just wondering, before I go out and buy a city builder, are there any others that I should consider? Or is Anno the one? I already have Caesar 3 and 4.

Sim City is the best, by far. :) I didn't like City Life.

not heard of Anno 1701, how deep is it?
It's not a just city building game it's a RTS too. It's not bad, though doesn't go as deep into city managment as dedicated games though it does offer things they don't too.

SimCity 4 is too dated graphics wise, and SimCity Societies is too basic.

I'd like a City Builder myself but don't fancy an RTS game if it involves war, I have plenty of those already.

City Life looks good to me, why don't you like it?

I'm on a quest to find a good city builder and have been through them all. To date it's been SimCity4 that leads but it's so dated now we need v5. City Life is ok but I found I don't return to it as often as SC4. The Caesars are good, not played Anno. Right now, although not really a city builder, the one game that grabs me is Civ4. It's simply superb as it has enough of every aspect of gaming you could imagine and does it so very well.

I find the game too easily looks to conflict between societies and you spend more time managing happiness than building cities. The landscapes are too small to get a grand sense of scale like SC4 as well.
