civ 4 - noob advice

had civ 4 for ages and never really got into it!

Now I want to play this and get into it but don't know how to start playing as I'm new to this genre of game.

their are lots of good sites for civ4, Civfanatics is a big one. I would start at a low difficulty setting just to play the game through a few times to get familiar then slowly up the difficulty which will force you to get better at the game.

Be aware though this game is seriously good. If you really get into it games can take a very long time!

Pick a game type that you'll like as well. Don't select huge maps and marathon game time if you've not got much time to play. I find it almost impossible to lose on easy settings but played like that for a long time, you learn very little on easy though as your opponents are just too easy to win.
That said don't play on the hard levels until you've learned the game, it will put you off.
