Civ 5 help needed (steam keeps saying its a duplicate key..)

Hi, MY girlfriend bought me civ 5 for my birthday. It was my birthday last monday (she bought it brand new on the release date) I went to install it last week and it kept saying it was a duplicate key... -_- I re-enterd it again and it came up the same thing. We went back to bristol (we live in a near by town) After an hours train journey and a 20mins bus ride.. we found out game shop has since shut down -_- It was a small shop (wasnt game station etc) and had no contact address.

Has any body got ANY clue what i can do now?? It sounds like the biggest made up story of all time so dont really fancy having to call up steam and explaine it -_- lol Like i say it was brand new, it even had the wrapper on when we bought it. Its deff not a pirate or second hand. Does it mean its a corrupt code? Id really appricate any help :( thanks
 
First of all, if your girlfriend paid on a bank card, you should have the evidence on her statement. It might even say the name of the company on there?

It wouldnt hurt to email steam explaining the situation and see what they say also.

Thats where I would start.

Thanks i think im going to have too lol :( I just called her and asked and she said she is 99% sure she paid with cash. -_- Ive just been on the support site and it says "you NEED a receipt that shows you bought the product before 90 days ago) :( as we bought it in september it wouldnt have been much good anyway. Ill contact them and see what they say.
