civ4 any good

Personally I think it's excellent, a real return to form after CIV3 which I felt was missing that "spark" that Civ 1 and 2 had (though it's retained the good ideas from CIV3).

I don't play multiplayer though...

I think its rubbish. Never ever ran stable for me, usually crashed round about the same time you enter the modern, post-industrial era. In terms of building options, its very poor too and the unit variety is not very big either.

Neither addictive, nor fun, just like Civ 3 its a very poor attempt. Civ 2 remains the master IMO.

Game had a very bad memory leak, usually when population and citys hit a certain level they would make you run out of memory completely.

Someone released a fix for this after a few weeks, although I'd imagine by now that theres a patch that solves this.

Personally I like Civ 4 :)

Altho I still think the best ever Civ was the 1st one :D

I'd have a look at GalCiv2 instead.

Argh, I hated that game.

I still think Civ 2 is the best, do that with borders, enhanced AI, and better management for air units then that would be pretty good. I still play it over the internet with a friend of mine.

If anybody would ever be up for a game of Civ 2 sometime let me know. :)

I thought Civ 4 wasn't bad, but didn't seem as much of a difference say from Civ 2 to Civ 3, as opposed to Civ 3 to Civ 4.

Its not just the memory leak that was annoying though (fix didnt work for me, sadly).

Other things that annoyed me were the fact that the buildings that you could build in a city not varied enough, nor did they have enough impact IMO. Then in terms of military, the choice has been ridiculously downsized, esp. compared to Civ 2.

I did like the idea of protecting resources though, and the choice of wonders that you could built was impressive.

Overall, however, I was very disappointed and would not recommend buying it. Channeling resources in trying to get Civ 2 to work on a modern machine will result in much more playing happines in the end IMO :)

I loved Civ2 so much that I nearly wore the CD out :) I hated Civ3 with a passion so didn't have high hopes for Civ4. I got it for Xmas however and much to my surprise, loved it. Well worth a look (IMO).

AOE3 is poo really poo.

I cant really get to grips with civ 4, after playing 1 and 2 religeoulsy 4 is just odd, it looks the same but the buildings have all changed roles and the air units are annoying. THe PC still magics up units from out of nowhere, really annoying AI

im not even sure what happened to civ 3 i must have played it but i cant remember it atall. Too many drugs as a teenager i guess ;)

GalCiv2 I really hated. Very dull, didn't seem to have the depth that Civ4 does. Civ4 is a major time sink - I had to uninstall it, just to get some sleep again!

Civ 4 is the best turn-based game ever released. Gal Civ 2 is fun as well, although Civ has the edge.

I bought both though.

Have you grabbed the 1.1 patch for GC2? They've really improved the AI (even more). I've had to shift down a diifculty level :(

I only got it recently so I didn't really play it without the patch. I do like the A.I. in Gal Civ 2, especially when they come out with stuff like this:
