So my first ever dabble into the Civ universe was via Civ 5, love the game and i think its fantastic, only annoying thing is i seem to advance a lot faster then the other players and i end up with tanks while there still on horse back......

Also which Civ game is the better?

Thanks.

yeah, i think the general concensus is that 4 with all the add-ons absolutely blows 5 out of the water.

5 iirc is a terribly coded game with epic AI issues.

Have you pushed up the difficulty, that'll take away some of the advantages you get and give them to the AI instead.

I'm playing 5 at the moment but it feels like a lot of the depth of 4 has been taken away, 5 is more accessible to a new player and has got rid of stacks of doom, 4's the better game though, especially with broken sword.

Civilization 4 + Beyond the Sword is a legend.

No matter how hard you try, you'll fail to beat it.

Unfortunately this is very true. I say unfortunately because I wanted Civ 5 to be sensational but it's not. Hopefully it will have some great expansions, and not just expensive DLC, that will improve it no end.

Civ5 is let down by the crappy AI. Even on the hardest setting where the AI is cheating like mad, there's very little challenge if you're used to these sort of games.

The actual game is fine, excellent in multiplayer, but the weak AI really killed it for me. I've back with civ4 unless some serious improvements are made (which probably will happen eventually).

I didn't like 4 when it came out, mostly because it wasn't 3 but I kept trying 4 until it grew on me and improved further with bts. I'm hoping the same will happen with civ5

I wonder if there are any plans for substantial BtS style add-ons for Civ V, rather than just drip feeding maps and additional civs as DLC.

OP There is an unwritten but universal law that you must learn when asking a question of any Civ player;

The previous version of Civilization was so much better than this one :(

This law can not be broken just like time can't travel backwards, in fact I think Brian Cox may actually be doing a whole Christmas special on this one Universal law since it is so much a fundamental part of existence

:p

CIV 5 is a let down. It's better with patches especially the economy side (It doesn't take a 100 years anymore to build an artilllery just because my city doesn't have a few hills around) but still not great.

Don't like the loss of complexity. Dimplomacy just stinks. It's pretty pointless with the exception of research agreements. Universal happiness? Lol wtf no wonder they say it's Civ Rev for PC.

I like the combat though. 1 unit per tile mean no more stacks of doom. I tend to play every time they release a patch or two and the AI has marginally improved since release.

I think I prefer Civ 4 due to the way culture works and religion is always quite fun... What ALWAYS puts me of 4 is the stacks of doom... I hate them, always ruin the game for me... Really, I'd like Civ 5 to have culture and religion like in Civ 4 and the rest of the features like Civ 5!
