I have just started playing and despite it being early doors, It looks a very well pollished game and I am finding it much fun.

I have never played any of the previous Civ titles so any tips for a Civ noob?

Don't be afraid to expand quickly and attack people nearby, be aggressive.

Too many people just turtle up. :p

That is what I am doing now :(

A little afraid to goto war incase I get pOwn3d so early in the game - LOL

Turtling is fine by me.

ALT-TABS back into game to declare war on someone.

I always try and have the following in city of my cities at the beginning of the game:

2 Spearmen
2 Archers/Longbow
3 Awemen
1 Swordman
Couple of war elephants wouldn't go a miss either.

Then stack your units together with a few catapults and attack your enemies. Use the catapults to weaken the enemy, and then send in your units in.

Ouch, aggressive-then again, I tend to play naval maps and just beast out a navy-means that nobody can touch you until flight, by which time it is normally too late for them.

a few really depending on lvl. the only issue with having lots of military is that it's pretty expensive in terms of upkeep, they need to be advanced too so it all needs to be balanced out. if the ai perceives you as weak then they will attack.

diplomacy is important in higher levels, as are the trades you choose to make, decide what win you want to go for early, if you go to war ensure you can win reasonably quickly - prolonged wars can cripple your economy and put you behind. don't neglect your science, use your specialists properly, choose the right wonders and er have fun!

civfanatics is a great forum for civ guides, it's as complex or as simple as you want to make it.

At the very start, it is a bit of a land grab, with the key securing any useful resources early on. I tend to expand toward the enemy first and then build towns further away somewhat later.

Make sure u secure marble and stone as they give u twice as fast production of wonders.

Rushing the AI can be a tricky task and I suggest you do it after u have gotten used to the game. I personally start of with building a worker. I know it takes a while and your town doesnt grow when settlers/workers are being produced but the investment quickly repays itself because the improvements a worker does around your town boost things big time. Btw, a clever tactic may be to go near the enemy borders with warriors and snatch any workers that work on something at the nearby tile. Sure you declare war that way but its the beginning of the game when the AI wont be prepared to attack and taking his worker boosts you and cripples him in the long run.

I'm playing civ4 still quite a bit and I have trouble on prince, I can't seem to improve I still lose 50% of my games and it's starting to annoy me... On noble it's way too easy but on prince it's too challenging and I don't seem to be improving :(...
