I know someone put below about civ IV being on offer but Civ V is also on offer on steam over the weekend for the price above. I've had a look online on a few sites and cant find it any cheaper.

Isnt it terrible though?

Ooh, there's a can of worms waiting to be opened right there. :D

I think it really depends on what you thought of CIV 4. If you liked the depth and micro managing then CIV 5 might be best avoided. On the other hand, if you thought CIV 4 was just stuffed with too much guff, then CIV 5 might be up your street. I'm of the former, but did like the 1UPT mechanic.

If you've never played CIV before, then this game was actually made with you in mind.

I still liked Civ V, even for all its flaws, I was still grpped by the 'just 1 more turn' aspect it brought. It just wasn't as good as Civ IV, it also didn't hold its appeal as long.

I am one of the ones who avoided civ 5 cause of the lack of complexity, glad I did hearing about some of the opinions

Civ 4 and 5 are very different. I personally love them both although I have spent more time playing Civ 4 than 5. Civ 5 is just too broken and the AI is just poor. However that said, it is strangely enjoyable still and I personally think that they will improve it over time with patches. Well at least I hope they will anyways.

Yeah. Civ5 is still awaiting more patches before it's up to the (extremely high) standard set by the final civ4 release.

They're quite different games. Civ4 was more about empire-building, where as civ5 feels gauged more towards warfare. The main problem is the AI isn't very good at the warfare yet.

Civ4 had a few user-made AI patches that were eventually intergrated with official patches, so hopefully the same will happen here. People seem to forget civ4 had pretty much all the same problems as civ5 on release (mainly weak AI and serious balancing issues).

Yeah I remember the day I worked out in the vanilla release of 4 you could dominate the game as Frederik of the Germans with cultural and philosophical traits (and the panzer tank) as it turned any average civ into a cultural/scientific power house....

5 is good, well worth £17.99 (I felt it was worth the whole £30) even if it is still sort of broken like the last one. The one unit per tile thing is more or less the best change to the game play over the previous 4 as it takes away from stack attacks which always always kill the older ones (well slow them down at any rate)

Heh, what if you liked alpha centauri better than any civ?

Its not as good as Civ IV or even Civ II, however it is still a good enjoyable game.

Hardcore Civ fans felt really let down with the game based on how good the previous ones were, but I actually rate it as the 3rd best in the series after Civ II and Civ IV.

£3.75 - this deal absolutely wees all over civ 5 like a Rifleman Vs a Spear-man.

Civ V is ok for the new CIV player but for anyone else its an insult in series.

bah....£3.75. I have just bought Civ V but looking at this I should just keep playing my copies of colonization and civ 4 and wait for the inevitable massive price drop for civ 5. But too late.

Ahhh, I'be drunk to much to make such a dissision. I think I will buyy it and nto play it but I did enjoy civ 5 even though I found the ai to be utter morons and generaly find it to be an easy game. I even won diety 1 on 1, though I felt I absused the ai terribly when tehy basically allowed me to destroy most their army by trying to invade me by sea instead of by land.

To buy or not to buy grrrrrrr. I'm a big stratergy gamer, mtw, rtw were my favourites, m2tw was dumbed down imo and impossible to loose. Supcom fa and empire earth are also soem of my favourites.

I swear the keyts keep moving! haha

Also I heard u don't get transports for troops? The naval warfare in civ4 was my fav bit
