Ridiculous comments by the London Mayor, Ken Livingstone, against Jeremy Clarkson.

Also:
The mayor is also encouraging motorists to follow his example and use a Toyota Prius

...

Livingstone has no licence and can’t drive.

Read and enjoy :D

LOL! You have to love Clarkson, he's so level-headed. :D

I hate the Prius aswell by the way...

Lol if those comments are true Livingstone is more of a nutter than i first thought. Looking forward to the new series of TG, see what Clarkson has to say.

Clarkson for Mayor of London. :D

I actually heard that live, it was on Nick's Ferrari monthly interview with Ken Livingstone on LBC. Problem with Ken Livingstone is that he just won't listen and when he reads something he can only see what he wants to see. This is persistant throughout his entire career as a Mayor - majority of people in west london vote against Congestion Charge extension as it will kill small businesses but Ken will go ahead with it anyway because he believes people in Kensigton & Chelsea are misinformed. The Adjudication Panel for England suspends him for a month for bringing his office into disrepute but he won't accept it as he believes his position is higher than that of a panel and will spend £100k of council tax money on appeals. It just goes on forever.

Now, back to Clarkson issue:
Clarkson said he's more interested in colour of a gear stick than co2 figures when choosing a car because for every scientist claiming co2 is responsible for global warming you'll find at least one who reckons it's caused by something else.
And he's right, because let's face it - in many countries scientists are not bothered by co2 figures at all - for Japanese for example co2 is considered easy to deal with, nitrogen oxides on the other hand are something that they are really affraid of - Jap hatchbacks might have fuel appetites of a lorry but you'll find all kinds of recirculation valves, EGRs and other variations to cut down NOx emissions. In UK however we don't even test those emissions during MOT at all. I would say, out of all options, I would go with Japs on that one.

livingston is a loon, im glad I dont live in london with that numpty in charge
I saw a prius the other day and thought about that top gear review they did and clarkson said a diesel had better fuel consumption and TBH the prius is an expensive piece of junk, its about £20K if I remember rightly

Tbh its not really hard to come to the conclusion that x Billon cars putting out x billion tonnes of CO2 per year is gonna mess up the finely balanced global system.

Its really a bit beyond doubt now, especially in the light of global dimming, which is acutally masking the warming of the Earth to the tune of around 25%.

Then why arn't there restrictions and high taxes on other things that putt large quantities of CO2 into the air.

Aircraft and Cattle also produce lots of CO2.

I'm not saying that I don't think these gases harm the atmosphere, I just think politicians should be even handed and realistic.

if we're causing changes to the worlds temperature with co2 emissions. How exactly do you explain the last ice age ?

we werent around to cause that one ...

if the temperature can shift down on its own wihout human intervention, could it not shift the other way without our intervention ?

Well, like it or not it is going to be put in doubt all the time. I for one don't think CO2 on it's own strikes much balance in nature. Typical sub 120g/m car produces 2,255 kg of CO2 per year, planting 4 trees per car should zero it out. As for the rest of the emissions... well, no one really talks to us about those, do they, it's the carbon dioxide they focus on...

Tell you what I bet Mr Livingston regularly flies in an aircraft. These badboys sure belt out a hell of a lot more CO2 than cars do... :p
