Class 2 Licence

Just wondering if we have any Class 2 drivers on the forum who could give out any info regarding job

I have decided to go for my class 2 licence for a career change. I am based near Glasgow and wondered if anybody knew how easy it is for new drivers to get work and best place to sit test etc

I wouldnt mind doing 7.5t work to be honest. The job i am in the now, if i stay much longer i will end up swinging from a tree lol so will take any work to start.

I'm a transport manager for a well known logistics company and I know that we do not have drivers who only have limited driving experience. Good luck though.

I have seen companies who welcome new drivers and willing to train them. Also others only want experience.

I have seen that there is a shortage of drivers allegedly. Is that a true reflection in your opinion?

We did have a depot in Glasgow but we've moved to Motherwell. We employ Class 2 drivers and pay them the same rate as Class 1.

The reason for that is the Class 2's do considerably more work than the Class 1's

If you stay on (no fly by night) We'll even upgrade you to Class 1

I did actually contact your company with regards to whether they start new drivers

Nobody responded to me so i will take that as a resounding NO!! haha

To a new driver, I'd advise you register with as many employment agency's as possible and don't be picky as to what work they offer you, once you've shown you turn up and can do the job things will snowball from there.

It's all down to experience, the more you get the more work you will be offered.

A lot of employers will take on new drivers , you just have to show willing and take it from there.

Get your Class 1 though, a quick glance at motorway traffic will show you there's far more artics on the road than rigids.

As for class 1 i do plan to although that will be 6 months to a year down the line to be fair
